In the summer of 2003, MOKA was founded under the hopes of becoming the cheerleading and dance opportunity for any youth who had the heart and passion to achieve. Underprivileged kids were initially the targeted audience. Since the founding of MOKA, the company has grown to embrace both cheerleading and dance, focusing on the training of a diverse group of kids with various backgrounds and origins. The targeted audience has thus expanded and the MOKA vision has touched the lives of national competitors, individual dreamers, and communities across the nation. There are four divisions within the company – Studio Classes, Summer Encampment, Competition, & Merchandising.
The studio extension primarily focuses on the individual training of cheerleading and dance skills during two semester seasons. Students are offered the opportunity to truly expand their knowledge within the fields, and experience the intensity of studio training. Students are pushed to learn the trends of studio training, and are prepared to venture to other geographical areas to foster their learning. Excellence is a result of discipline to learn the craft. MOKA’s studio is quite unique, as it not only houses the dance program, but also a full cheerleading gym with several all-star teams!
The summer camp program is designed as a public or private experience for squads to learn basic fundamentals and competitive skills of cheerleading and dance. Furthermore, MOKA camps showcase an unprecedented style, as they also include individual character training and leadership summits. Generally, squads that attend summer camp attend as a team to learn the latest trends of cheerleading and dance, and to formulate a bond before the season commences. While MOKA camps do not differ with such an initiative, they are successful with incorporating various team-building strategies, which motivate each participant to achieve.
The competition and merchandising divisions are two of MOKA's newest investments. The company is excited to see the expansion of branding and a new exciting cheerleading, dance, and step team competition, which made its debut March 3, 2007! The merchandising division now sells over 10 MOKA items at all MOKA events including: t-shirts, bags, stuffed animals, lanyards, flip-flops, and more! The MCA & MDA National Competition took center stage as cheer, dance, and step teams from around the country competed for the national title of several divisions - middle school, high school, all-star, and college! MOKA’s “Stomp The Yard” became Louisiana’s first national competition of its style which incorporated cheerleading, dance, and stepping in one competitive arena.
